Someone once described my work as grimy and it was the best compliment ever. I love it when up close a painting looks messy and expressive, but makes complete sense when looking at the bigger picture, so to speak.

I would describe my work as autobiographical, I paint people and things around me I feel worth capturing. My eyes are generally drawn to the subtleties in life, like a person sitting a particular way or displaying a certain mood. Sometimes a drainpipe or a mangled bird. I like the idea of giving value to these things and immortalising the current culture of regular life in history like lots of inspirations did (ie. walter sickert, gwen john) . Portraits and figures are a common theme in my work because it's my introverted way of being a people person. Also, there is something strangely satisfying about looking into the eyes of someone else and somehow understanding yourself better. ​

As humans, I think we often search far and wide for meaning in life, but by painting ordinary things and people, I hope to show that this can be found anywhere by just observing things intentionally. I hope that viewers can relate, or just enjoy the experience of looking at my piece for a minute like I do the things I paint.

After completing school with A levels in Art and Psychology, and a Level 3 in Food Science, I went on to complete a foundation diploma in Fine Art at Leeds Arts University where I did a lot of conceptual experimental work.

I loved this but realising i wanted more technical skills, I studied Graphic Design & Illustration at LJMU from 2019-2022, where i got a First Ba(Hons). I learnt tonnes of skills as I'd hoped, although thanks to the pandemic hitting 5 months into my degree I was lead back to more DIY and traditional forms of art, ultimately back to painting and drawing. 

I was commuting and living at home in Leeds, so in my time outside the course I took part in several local exhibitions including a group show at the Corn Exchange and a casual solo show at the Old Red Bus Station in the city centre.

I moved into my first studio space 6 months after graduation, supported by my job at Hobbycraft which I've had throughout these studies to present. I've been at Assembly House studios for a year and a half now and I'm currently balancing my oil paintings with large scale mural work and odd jobs on the side in the hopes of eventually making my mark in the painting scene.
