These paintings are from a series documenting the effects perimenopause had on both my mind and body and how I struggled to make sense of all the, often conflicting, emotions. Using self-portraits I have tried to accurately capture my feelings over a period of seven years before starting HRT. I try and describe in paint subjects such as the mood swings that would result in periods of melancholy or sheer anger. Anxiety so bad that I wondered if I was able to get out of bed and face another day. All these feelings and more I have tried to show in visual form in the hope that other women could identify with and make sense of their own feelings.
