My work deals with the fragments of life seen at very close range; the elusive portrayal of human touch/feeling - scaled up beyond life size, giving emphasis to moments of observation. 

These ‘moments’ are translated into paintings:  combining modern and traditional working methods is a defining element of my work, referencing both contemporary and historical sources - using digital manipulation of original photographic source material before executing the images with the traditional oil painting method of glaze painting.

Anne Moses is a British artist based in the small coastal town of Whitby, in North Yorkshire.  She left the University of Manchester, in 1975 with B.A Honours Degree in Fine Art and has been developing and producing work continuously.

Until 2014 she supported her studio practice managing and delivering a successful Art & Design Access to Higher Education Course which enabled many disadvantaged adults to gain entry into universities across the UK. 

She took the daunting (and late) leap into gaining exposure for her work about 7 years ago and, although a long, arduous and lonely journey, she has been very gratified by the response she has  received so far.

She is now represented in London (Moosey Gallery) and New York (Sugarlift Gallery), exhibiting nationally and internationally. Recent  success includes:

• Finalist for the Gemini Art Prize, London 2023 
• Finalist for the Robert Walters U.K. New Artist Award in collaboration with the Saatchi Gallery 2022;
• Finalist for The Aesthetica Art Prize, 2022

• The Hollybush Painting Prize (shortlisted) 2022        

Building layer upon layer of transparent colour oil glazes onto a white ground is a technique which she has developed and researched, adapting it to suit her own practice, to the extent of making her own slow drying oil glaze. This technique allows for great subtlety of colour giving a beautiful luminosity to the work.
