My work serves as a sanctuary for reflection and emotional exploration in a world that often hurries by.
My work is about rediscovering the magic that’s all around us but so often overlooked in the rush of everyday life. I want to capture those fleeting, beautiful moments that make us stop and wonder—the kind of moments that remind us of the extraordinary hidden in the ordinary.
Inspired by artistic movements like Verism and Scapigliatura, and adding a touch of Expressionism, my paintings combine the old and the new. I love exploring how art can feel timeless while still speaking to us in the here and now.
Being an artist is about seeing the world with fresh eyes—finding beauty in how light falls, the colours we often take for granted, or the quiet magic of a single gesture. My goal is to create paintings that tell stories and spark something personal in those who view them.
I hope my work feels like a moment of connection, a little reminder of the beauty and wonder that’s always there if we take a moment to look.
My name is Cristina Vercesi, and I am an oil painter passionate about creating works that invite viewers to pause and rediscover the magic in everyday life. I began my artistic journey six years ago at London Fine Art Studios, a life-changing decision that transformed my love for art into a professional career.
My work is inspired by the beauty of human connection and the fleeting moments that define us. It blends influences from late 19th-century Italian art movements like Verism and Scapigliatura, as well as Expressionism and Tonalism. Artists such as Antonio Mancini, Tranquillo Cremona, and Levitan have deeply shaped my approach, encouraging me to bridge the gap between traditional techniques and contemporary sensibilities.
I have exhibited with renowned institutions such as the Royal Society of Portrait Painters (RP), the Society of Women Artists (SWA), and the Chelsea Art Society. My work has been showcased at prestigious exhibitions, including the RP Annual Exhibition 2023, The De Laszlo Scholarship Exhibition, and the group exhibition Otherlands at Green & Stone Gallery. I also participated in Sky Portrait Artist of the Year 2024, an experience that pushed my boundaries and enriched my artistic journey.
Additionally, I shared my insights into the artistic process through an article for Jackson’s Art Blog, reflecting on my residency at the Galleria Ricci Oddi in Piacenza, Italy. During this residency, I created a mastercopy of Antonio Mancini’s work—a transformative project that deepened my understanding of traditional techniques.
I am currently working on a series of paintings centered on self-discovery. Each piece invites reflection on the beauty and complexity of life, offering a moment to connect with one’s emotions and aspirations.
For me, painting is not just about creating images but about sharing a vision of the world as a place filled with wonder, magic, and meaning. As an artist, I am committed to exploring themes of transformation and connection while celebrating the enduring power of oil painting to move and inspire.
