Oil on board

h: 50 w: 40 d: 1 (cms).

This painting takes its influence from pre-raphaelite floral symbolism, with the rose being an unwavering symbol of love. The scattered petals represent a failed and withered love. The painting is intentionally decorative and imbued with seemingly superfluous and overused symbolism— to convey that beauty can prevail in the aftermath of a twisted love. The figure gazes away, forlorn but defiant. Hopeful of the reprieve that will come her way.
