My work serves as a sanctuary for reflection and emotional exploration in a world that often hurries by.
While movements like Verism and Scapigliatura influence my paintings and I rely on elements of Expressionism and Tonalism, creating a unique synthesis that bridges historical epochs and modern sensibilities; in this way, I seek to create timeless yet modern pieces that resonate with contemporary viewers
The recurrent theme in my work is the journey toward self-discovery—a journey that I believe is not a solitary endeavour but a universal human experience. My current series invites viewers to delve into their interior worlds, offering a visual space for contemplation and self-reflection. Through the play of light, shadow, and emotion, I aim to elicit an intuitive response, encouraging each individual to confront their vulnerabilities, aspirations, and complexities.
Ultimately, my work is an ode to the human condition and the spectrum of emotions that each one of us experiences. It's about capturing those fleeting moments that define us, whether they are dramatic turning points or subtle instances that often go unnoticed. In doing so, I strive to create art that engages and deeply connects, offering a mirror in which viewers might see reflected their own stories and experiences."
My name is Cristina Vercesi, and I am an emerging artist with a focus on oil painting. My artistic journey began six years ago at London Fine Art Studios, a decision that has transformed my life and solidified my career in painting.
Influenced by art movements like Verism and Scapigliatura that flourished in late 19th-century Italy, my work explores the nuances of human emotion and introspection. Artists like Antonio Mancini and Tranquillo Cremona have deeply inspired me. My work also showcases the influence of Expressionism and Tonalism, creating a dynamic juxtaposition between traditional and contemporary approaches.
I aim to create pieces that resonate with today's audience while honouring the timeless beauty inherent in masterful oil painting.
My works have been featured at several exhibitions, including the RP Annual Exhibition 2023, The De Lazslo Scholarship Exhibition 2023 and a group exhibition titled "Otherlands" at Green & Stone Gallery.
I've had the privilege of sharing my artistic insights through an article I wrote for Jackson's Art Blog. I discussed my experience and learnings from a residency at the Galleria Ricci Oddi in Piacenza, Italy. While there, I worked on a Mancini mastercopy project that deeply enriched my artistic practice.
Currently, I am working on a series of oil paintings centred around self-discovery. This collection is not just a personal exploration but also an invitation to viewers to embark on their journeys of introspection and realisation. Through each painting, I aim to provide a reflective space where anyone can pause to examine their emotions, thoughts, and aspirations, finding resonance and meaning in the layered strokes and colours.
My path in the art world started by being an avid collector of art books. My love for art has always driven me to seek knowledge about iconic artists and those whose incredible works and contributions have been overshadowed by time.
I am excited about the future and committed to creating art that captivates the imagination and invites contemplative engagement from viewers.
